More History of MJCC
A fundraising trip by Ernest to the United States culminated in donations that made possible the construction of the school’s first real classroom in 2007. By 2008, the school had built four classrooms and hired enough teachers to instruct pre-kindergarten through third-grade classes. In 2014, MJCC graduated its first seventh-grade class, all of whom successfully enrolled in secondary schools. Thus MJCC has reached an important milestone in its mission to provide young students with the education necessary to pass the Tanzanian national exam and enroll in either government-funded or private secondary schools.
The MJCC originally registered as a small orphan center, but as it grew to the size of a full primary school it was asked by the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training to obtain the necessary certification to undertake the government’s educational curriculum. The Ministry provides inspectors who visit the school to review sanitation, curriculum and general learning environment, but no government funding is available to private schools.
